Abstract:

Background and Objectives: The concept of safety culture was first used in the 1987 report of the Nuclear Agency on the Chernobyl disaster, and then the weakness of the safety culture was identified as the cause of the major disasters. Since the creation of the word safety culture in this report, it has been widely used and described and practically evaluated for its popularity. Safety culture defines as a group and individual values, attitudes and beliefs, capabilities, and behavior patterns that determine the commitment, manner, and skill of the organization's health and safety management. Material and Methods: A descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on automotive workers for evaluating the status of their safety culture. The target population was employees of the automobile industry of an Iranian automobile company (SAIPA) in 2014. Results: The results of this study showed that there was no relationship between safety culture and marital status. It was found that people with a college education had a significantly lower level of safety culture than those with a high school diploma or lower (P<0. 05). There was a positive relationship between work experience and safety culture. There was no relationship between safety culture and those having a second job. Job tasks had a diverse safety culture. The mean safety culture score in employees who had experienced an accident was significantly lower than those who did not. Older employees showed to have a higher safety culture score. Conclusion: Safety culture had a positive relationship with various factors such as (please name a few). Unfortunately, these factors were not studied thoroughly in Iranian automotive industries. According to the results of this study, on the job training and considering, incentives for the workers could be useful for promoting their safety culture.

Abstract:

In this project, it has been tried to increase the safety of existing and under construction roads using Geographic Information System (GIS) and its related software.  In Geographic Information System, data are saved in the form of natural coordinates. In other words, GIS can provide coordinates of each point and also accident locations. Then, using these coordinates, different layers of information can be generated in the form of spatial, chart, table and map data and all generated layers can be related together. After surveying various features using mobile mapping software, different data layers are created using other GIS related software, and attribute tables which present their characteristics are provided for each layer. Then, each layer is studied separately. In the present project, the GIS software are used in order to quickly notify (or announce) the reaction .Using facilities provided in this software environment, the specialists spend less time for collecting data and there is a possibility for several traffic specialists to give their opinions and, as a result, to decide in the area of management projects and maintenance. Thus, by making decisions on time, the risk of fatal and financial damages (or the risk of loss of life and property) will decrease and road users can travel on routes more comfortably.

Abstract:

Introduction: Behavioral science is an inseparable part of a comprehensive accident prevention strategy in a work place. This study reports a behavior approach used to evaluate the effects of an occupational safety training intervention on industrial textile workers. Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental based on Solomon 4-group design participatory study, which is conducted as pretest-post-test intervention. A sample of 85 workers of a textile factory participated in this study. A questionnaires and a behavior observation checklist were developed exclusively for this study. The required substantial data for intervention planning were resulted based on findings due to conducting four first phases of precede-proceed model. A combination concept of Precede-Proceed model and theory of Reasoned Action were utilized in planning and implementing the interventions. Our package consisted of training, assigned goal setting, daily verbal praise, and graphic feedback that were provided four times a week. Analysis of data was performed using Minitab software. Descriptive statistics and t-test and analysis of variance were used for comparisons between groups. Results: The mean scores on knowledge and safety practices showed significant improvement among all four groups in one month and three months post intervention, with groups 1 and 2 show the highest improvement. Our findings approved the applicability of combined models on safety practices and knowledge on the safety issues in workplace. Conclusion: Our study acknowledges the idea of applying an occupational safety training intervention package for textile industry workers and implementing health education intervention to promote safety practices in other industries.

Abstract:

Introduction: Despite, huge advances in safety science, yet the rate of accidents is unacceptable. Recent decade's experiences show that using safety equipment alone is not enough to improve the present situation. In so doing, promoting safety culture has been considered as a main strategy. Methods: This sectional, descriptive - analytical study has been done in 2009 and 2010.Technical and engineering intervention actions were done, after measuring the safety culture level, using a specific questionnaire and its results analysis. After six months to determine the impact of measures taken, the safety culture was measured again.Result: The mean score of people‘s safety culture, by amount of 287 ± 43.42 was assessed positive. After the interventions implementation, significantly, safety culture score increased from 287 ± 43.42 to 318 ± 31.11 (p<0.001). The effects of age, marital status and work experience in promoting safety culture after the intervention was significant (p<0.001).Conclusion: To reduce the frequency of different accidents, it is essential to have plans for improving HSE culture level in the industrial activities.

Abstract:

Dear Editor, Gudi and Tiwari have recently outlined the challenges of the current SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic, suggesting that it is “ forcing the entire world to lockdown” (p. 108). Yes, there are ‘ stay at home’ policies to protect populations; however, manyemployees must continue to work during the coronavirus pandemic. Many jobs cannot be shut down, particularly for those who work at the hospitals, the care sectors, utility companies, and food transportation. Important manufacturing industries continue to operate, manyof which, in addition to coronavirus, pose risks that still need to be managed. It is understandable that the governments have made a determined effort to support people with Covid-19 and those who attempt to treat them; nevertheless, it is also the case that other work is necessary, and the business of risk assessment in those industries is important. There have always been harmful occupational factors in the workplace, such as noise, dust, vapors, and chemicals...

Abstract:

Introduction: One of the four essential components of each organization is its culture. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective factors on promoting the safety culture of the patient in the Fayazbakhsh Hospital. Methods: The present study was descriptive-correlational and applied in terms of its purpose. The statistical population of the nurses of Fayazbakhsh Hospital was 345 and the sample size was 181. The research tool was a HSOPSC questionnaire which was confirmed in previous studies with verified factor analysis (GFI=0. 96) and its reliability was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha (α =0. 82). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one-sample t-test and SPSS22 software. Results: According to the findings of the research in Fayazbakhsh Hospital, the Components of team work in one unit (p=0. 00, t=27. 66), management expectations and management measures (p=0. 00, t=14. 12), a general understanding of Patient safety (p=0. 001, t=6. 6), staffing issues (p=0. 001, t=3. 81), our teamwork between organizational units (p=0. 00, t=9. 78), and the exchange and transmission of information (p=0. 001, t=11. 47) are effective in improving the safety culture as well as organizational learning components (p=0. 100, t=1. 65) Management support of patient safety (p=0. 001, t=-11. 25), communication and feedback feedback (p=0. 289, t=-1. 63), reporting frequency of events (P=0. 059, t=-1. 90), openness of communication channels (p=0. 00, t=-4. 219) and non-punitive encounter with the incident event (p=0. 00, t=-9. 40) is not effective in promoting patient safety culture. Conclusion: If hospital managers find obstacles and problems in this dimension to further increase these dimensions, there will be significant results in relation to patient safety culture in hospital in the long run.
